Dainty 1901 Mermaid Sterling Spoon Ring
**This listing is for the dainty version of this pattern. The smaller version made from the demitasse spoon. The larger version can be found here.
The incredibly rare Paye & Baker Mermaid from 1901.
Emerging from the waves, this languorous nude beauty sprawls the length of the spoon handle. Her tail weaves among waves and kelp, grazing the back of a sea monster.
I honestly never thought I would own this spoon. In all the patterns that I have discovered over 10 years of collecting, I know of only one sterling mermaid silverware pattern ever made and it is this stunning beauty here. The Paye and Baker Mermaid from 1901. They are incredibly rare and and even harder to obtain if you can find one - when my search finally pays off and I hold one in my hand, it feels like discovering long lost treasure.
Age: 1901 Paye & Baker
Feel of the ring: dainty spiral spoon ring. Not bulky and full of wonderful detail on both sides of the ring. Comfortable on the hand
Sizing options: 2 to 7 (photographed in size 4.5)
Metal: Sterling
Oh, If Spoons Could Talk
I love spoon rings. And I love hunting for the most beautiful spoons to make them! Spoon rings are a little wearable piece of history allowing the story to be shared and I love that these ornate beauties get to be enjoyed and not banished to some drawer for decades.
All The rings I make are from the original antique spoons - none are copies or casts. So each ring is not only beautiful in design, but full of indications that it has lived life. Maybe a faded monogram or little wear spots - I enjoy thinking about the places they have been and who might have held them 100 years ago. Each ring is, therefore, truly unique. There will not be two that are the same. I put care into the creation of each ring. I put thought into how the ring should best be shaped to frame and display the design of the spoon.
I hope the ring you choose will be a piece you treasure for generations.
